In the third installment of our Sustainability in Architecture series, “Sustainability in Architecture: Infrastructure,” we sat down with two partners in our Infrastructure Studio, as well as our Director of Sustainability, to reflect on our past and present, and some of the things to look forward to in our work.
Paul Bauer reflects on Manhattan Districts 1/2/5 Garages, located in downtown Manhattan specifically on some of the groundbreaking work we did on that project, and how some of that work is now commonplace in our DSNY work. We then talked to Gia Mainiero about our recently completed Precinct Station House, located in Rosedale, Queens, highlighting the community component of the project, as well as some deep energy conservation measures that were included. Finally, we talk to Director of Sustainability, Shefali Sanghvi, about the sustainability trends in our infrastructure studio.
Manhattan Districts 1/2/5 Garage and the New Precinct Station Houses are critical infrastructure projects that also serve as community anchors and catalysts. We are proud to design these projects, and to continue to demonstrate how integral sustainability is to all of our work. Dattner Architects is grateful for the leadership demonstrated by the City, specifically through New York City’s Department of Design and Construction, as well as our project stakeholders at Department of Sanitation and NYPD, for their commitment to quality, sustainability, and to the communities in which we do our work.
